As part of our investment in local Basketball we want to have as many qualified coaches as possible within the club. Please find below details of available coaching  courses. Please let us know if you are interested in any of the courses and remember Coalville Basketball Club will take care of the costs.


Leaders Award

This is a basic level qualification covering instructing the basic skills of the game, officiating and club administration.

Level I Coach Award (Assistant)
This is the basic level of coaching qualification, which gives outline knowledge of basketball, and enables the holder to introduce basketball, or to assist a Coach.

Level II Coach Award
This is the standard level of coaching qualification for all club coaches working at local level. The award gives a general overview of all aspects of basketball, and a basic introduction to coaching techniques.

Level III Coach Award (Advanced)
This is the Advanced level of coaching qualification, and is suitable for coaches working with all standards of players, from beginners to good standard players.

Level 1 (Apprentice)

The Level 1 award is an introduction to basketball and is aimed at the pure beginner. It gives an insight into the basic mechanics, violations and fouls that need to be administered when refereeing a basketball game. A Level 1 referee is qualified to officiate at school matches, central venue and local league (youth leagues) and recreational level.

Level 2

The Level 2 award is aimed at the begginner. Experience as a player or attending a level 1 course is an advantage . A Level 2 referee is qualified to officiate at more advanced local league and central venue league competitions and up to U16 National League competitions.

Level 3

Qualified to officiate at Division 3 Men and Divison 2 Women senior EBL. Having gained this award, experienced Level 2 referees may be appointed up to Division 1/2 Men’s and Division 1 Women senior national league competitions.

Level 4

This is a national qualification that is run on an annual basis and begins at the start of each season. A level 4 official will be qualified to officiate at all matches in the senior national league competition and up to the top domestic level.
